Tori asked me recently if I had a particular weigh-in day. The answer is no... I weigh every day; I always have. My weight has stayed the same, which is fine with me. A few years ago my doctor recommended that I lose 20 pounds, so I went and lost 35! With our move and a big dieting slip, I've gained about 15 pounds of that back, but that puts me at the weight that my doctor recommended in the first place. The problem is that I've felt how good it feels to be at the lower weight, and I want to be there again! I expect the loss to be slow though, since I really don't have much left to lose.
A few days ago I took advantage of the 8 flights of stairs in my house for a little exercise. I lost count of how many times I went up and down, but it was somewhere around 30. My calves were so sore the next day! But it was a nice change of pace from my usual exercise.
I have had a lot of "tests" recently with stress, and seeing where I would run to for comfort. A couple of times my mind drifted towards the thought of drowning my sorrows with Oreos.... but I quickly dismissed that thought since I knew that it was not truly the answer. For me, giving up sugar has been the best decision I've made concerning my food. I feel so much better; physically and emotionally. Plus, now my sugar cravings have all gone away. I had to make a big batch of brownies a couple of days ago for a party, and they didn't tempt me at all. I didn't even eat a crumb.... I was so proud. Sugar has gotten easier to avoid, but I do still have to watch myself when it comes to overeating. I have always eaten very fast, and that's a horrible habit to have. I'm trying really hard to slow down and pay attention to the signs of being full.
The recipe for this post is for "Whole Wheat Pancakes" They are very good, and they even passed the approval of my husband, who usually doesn't like my whole wheat versions of things. Now, don't go and ruin these with sugary syrup! Try unsweetened applesauce, fruit, or even natural peanut butter. My favorite thing to do with them may sound a little strange, but I love it: I make a sort of "pancake sandwich" with scrambled eggs inside (and bacon if I can find it!). Yummy!!
1 Cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 Cup milk
1 egg
1/2 Cup plain yogurt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 Cup milk
1 egg
1/2 Cup plain yogurt
1 tsp vanilla
Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl; set aside. Combine wet ingredients in a small bowl with a whisk. Add wet to dry and stir until combined. Cook as you would regular pancakes--[I'm going to assume you all know how to do that, and spare myself writing it all out. If you don't know how to cook pancakes, let me know]

Your recipe is very similar to what I use, except I use half whole wheat and half white flour. I'm gradually switching over (or trying to!) to all whole wheat, and I'm trying out some stone-ground whole wheat. I read once that stone ground WW is best for diabetics, as it doesn't raise the blood sugar as quickly as white flour and the WW flour you would typically buy. I found mine at Wal Mart in their specialty flours.
I like your idea of making a pancake sandwich. How long have you been outside the US? McDonald's makes little pancake breakfast sandwiches, but they have the syrup baked into them! LOL I didn't know if you'd heard of the ones at McD's yet.
I agree about the SUGAR..I too have cut it out of my diet (as much as possible) and it definetly makes a difference. I noticed it almost immediatley as well. I have even found that when I did have something with sugar..it did not send me into a tailspin of sugar craving! which I am very thankful. I have lost 5 pds. so far without excercizing..so no sugar and cutting out starches atleast M-F has helped.
Glad you are doing so well with your diet and love all your advice!
I have been struggling and KNOW that I too need to take the NO sugar route. I bought a book called Sugar Shock and just need to get back to reading it...it exposes all the harm it does to some of us....I know I need to do this, I thinki I have been rebelling in this area of my life and for me I do believe it crosses into SIN, pure and simple.
Would appreciate prayer on this as right now I am really having a difficult time.

The pancakes look good. I'll have to give them a try.
My dearest husband came home with 4 boxes of girl scout cookies the other day so I think I better make some of your banana 'cookies' as well to take care of my sweet tooth!
My weight-loss has been slow too. I've been on this new way of eating since just before Thanksgiving and still haven't made it to my first goal of 20 lbs. lost. But from what I've heard it is better for our bodies and easier to keep it off if we lose it slowly. Plus if we do this slowly we truly are learning a new way of eating!!
